Once only a dream...
Lucia DeGisi Reynolds grew up in the small town of Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, where, as long as she can remember, she always wanted to be a hairdresser.
"I remember my best-friend's sister-in-law asked if we would ride with her to the Gordon Phillips Beauty Academy she was attending," recalls Lucia (pronounced Loo-che-ah). "I don’t remember what it looked like or smelled like but I remember the excitement it invoked in me."
She arrived home that evening very excited and told her mother that she wanted to be a hairdresser.
"I asked her to buy me a salon when I grew up."
After graduating from high school in 1977, Lucia enrolled in that same Gordon Phillips Beauty Academy and soon earned both an operator and teaching license. With her new credentials the determined stylist secured her first real job at a well-known salon in the King of Prussia Plaza.
"I owe much of my success, confidence and maturity to Louis, the owner of that salon," comments Lucia. "He was the first of several mentors that I would emulate in the future." In 1985 Lucia had the first of two daughters, Danielle, who has been around the beauty business since she was five. Today she is the color expert at Fashionistas Salon.
Eleven months after having another daughter, the mother of two took her first venture into salon ownership. She owned and operated Lucia's Salon for four years at which point she decided that she needed to spend more time with her children and less in a salon. She did go back to work at a salon in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania where she would spend a full decade expanding her knowledge and experience as a master stylist and colorist.
Lucia's daughter Danielle occasionally worked with her mother throughout high school and, upon graduation, decided she wanted to make it her career.
Driving through Phoenixville, Pennsylvania over Christmas in 2006 they decided that this quaint little town should become the home of their new salon and Fashionistas Salon was born. Danielle became the salon manager and director of operations.
A short time later the pair found the perfect location on revitalized Bridge Street and in June 2007 construction was completed and Fashionistas Salon opened to the delight of everyone in search of affordable style from caring experts.
Future plans include, expanding Fashionistas to the building's second floor and adding more spa services. Once only a dream, Fashionista’s Salon has come to life and, over three decades later, Lucia claims that she still has that same child-like feeling whenever she's styling hair.
